Tempered Yogurt / Tadka Dahi / Perugu Pachadi

Tempered Yogurt is a Spicy yogurt which my grand ma use to prepare if the curd became sour. Its a quick and very easy to prepare and we called this dish as Perugu Thalimpu in telugu and Tadka Dahi in hindi.


  • Yogurt/Curd – one cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Onions – small (chopped)
  • Chillies – two (Chopped)
  • Cilantro leaf for garnishing

For Tempering:

  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric – a pinch
  • Red chillies – two
  • Chana dal – 5
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek Seeds – 5
  • Urad dal – 5
  • Curry leaves – few

How to Prepare Perugu Pachadi / Tempered Yogurt / Tadka Dahi:

  1. Whip the yogurt with a spoon for five minutes to make smooth and creamy. (Use Full fat Sour yogurt for better taste).
  2. In another bowl add chopped onions and sprinkle salt on it and mix well.
  3. Then add  the stirred yogurt to it.
  4. Heat oil in a Small pan and add mustard seeds to it.
  5. Let it splutter and then add chana dal, urad dal, fenugreek seeds and fry well.Then add curry leaves, Red chilli, Chopped chillies and fry them. Lastly add turmeric and then turn off the flame.
  6. Add this Tadka (Tempering or Thalimpu) to the yogurt and mix well.
  7. Add some chopped coriander for better flavour and taste.
  8. Serve this Yogurt as a side dish with Steamed Rice and Rotis.
