Chicken tomato curry is prepared with Indian Spices, with tangy and spicy flavour. It is slightly different from regular chicken curry and Butter chicken. There are so many vegetarian curry’s with tomato combination like Dal tomato, Drum stick tomato, Brinjal tomato likewise, I tried with chicken.
Ingredients:
- Chicken – 1 kg
- Tomatoes – 3 ripe (chopped)
- Ginger Garlic paste – 2 tbsp
- Garam masala powder – 2 tbsp
- Onions – 1 big (chopped)
- Green chillies – 5 (slit)
- Cilantro – few (chopped)
- Oil – 4 tbsp
- Water – 1/2 cup
For Chicken Marination:
- Chaat masala powder – 1 tbsp (gives extra tangy taste to the curry)
- Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp (extra hot)
- Chicken masala powder – 3 tbsp
- Salt to taste
In a mixing bowl add all ingredients along with chicken and mix well. Refrigerate the marinated chicken at least for an hour.
How to prepare Chicken Tomato Curry:
- Heat oil in a pan and add green chillies and onions and fry well till it becomes golden brown colour.
- 2 tbsp of Ginger garlic paste is added to the pan and sauté till the raw smell has gone.
- Chopped tomatoes were added to pan and fry them for 4 minutes.
- Just add a little bit salt to the pan and place a lid on the pan and let it cook for 7 minutes.
- Remove the lid and mix well.
- Transfer the chicken pieces into the pan and stir fry for few minutes.
- No need to add any additional water because the water oozes out from the chicken itself.
- But pour some water in it if you wish the curry to be soupy.
- Just add little bit salt, chilli powder if necessary.
- Place a lid on the pan and cook for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Lastly add gram masala powder and cilantro leaves.
- Mix well and switch off the flame, gravy chicken tomato curry is ready.
- Chicken tomato curry is a good side dish for white boiled rice, chapattis, roti paratha, pitta breads or any other breads.
Note:
- I dont suggest tomato puree instead of chopped tomatoes here. Fresh chopped tomatoes when cooked gives good taste along with chicken.
